How do you play an online game with PS3?

I know this is probably strange but I have just getting a PS3 and never had a playstation before. When you get a game that you can play online (like xbox live on xboxes) how do you play online is there an option or something in the game menu that you click or do you have to do something elseHow do you play an online game with PS3?

First you must link up the connection. Go to your Settings and set up your network, wired or wireless. When done and you reach to the game, most games would say multiplayer which will then say play online. It is noticeable in the games, but without setting up your connection you can not play.
You either have to connect your ps3 to your router via ethernet cable or wireless router. Then you have to set the ps3 up so it connects to your router, then you have to create a playstation network account. All of this sounds complicated but its really quite simple. Check out YouTube for help.
