Do you have dial-up (Aol, netzero)? If so, you cannot play xbox live, and you'd still have to buy it, but if you have dial-up its a waste. How do i hook my wire up to my computer tower to play xbox live online?
Make sure the Ethernet cord is connected to both your 360 and your tower..thats pretty obvious. Once you have done this go to ';My Network Connections';. Find the connection that you get your internet off of and the ';Lan Connection';, that should be your Xbox. Now highlight both your internet connection and the ';Lan Connection'; by pressing and holding Ctrl and clicking on both connections. Once both are highlighted blue right click one of them and a menu should pop up, click ';Bridge Connections'; in the menu. Wait a second for the connections to bridge and you should now be able to get on Xbox Live. Word of warning...messing with internet connections like this can screw things up for that particular desktops internet, if you did it right there should be no problem, but computers like to screw up for dumb reasons. You should be fine thoe.
either get a LAN-Switch that allows you to make your computer have 2 LAN ports or hook your Xbox to your pc via System Link and try setting your PC up as a gateway. I think I did the gateway thing and it worked out for me.
there should be a slot for it on the back of the 360 u plug the usb cable in to there and put the other one in the other slot on the computer
